MARKETING YOUR PRODUCT - INTRODUCTION
V. Ryan © 2014

When you have completed your practical work, completed your production log-book, tested and evaluated your product, you need to produce a number of sheets, that show how you intend to present it to a target market.

1.

RESEARCH: In preparation for the marketing section, attempt the initial work outlined below. Use the internet as a research tool:

THINK OF A SIMILAR PRODUCT

WHO IS IT MARKETED TO?

HOW IS IT MARKETED?

COLLECT SAMPLES OF THE WAY THE PRODUCT IS MARKETED AND CONSIDER MARKETING YOUR PRODUCT IN THE SAME WAY.

MAKE A LIST OF THE VARIETY OF TECHNIQUES / METHODS OF ADVERTISING
e.g. magazines, videos/TV advertisements, posters and billboards, internet advertising, product placement in films, SMS and MMS advertising, celebrity endorsement, gimmicks such as cartoon characters etc...

2.

SLIDE ONE

Start a marketing page / slide for your product, by clearly stating your target market and explain why it has been selected. The target market must be one of the following:

PROSPECTIVE MANUFACTURER
SUPPLIER
COMPANY BUYER
RETAILER
END USER OR USER GROUP
CONSUMER

Then, start creating an ‘advertisement page’ showing how your product could be advertised, to this target market.

E.G.This could be a page based on a film strip showing the important frames of the video YouTube video. This will not be suitable for some products.

FILM STRIPS

Add notes to explain each slide and especially how the slides promote / advertise your product.

On the same page, explain:

Why this form of advertising is ideal for your target market.

You should have already clearly stated your target market.

Explain each slide, emphasisingyour product.

BILLBOARDS

Billboards can be placed almost anywhere. They are particularly popular for advertisers, especially where traffic comes to a halt, such as at traffic lights.

POSTERS

Your product advertised on a poster?

Posters can be eye-catching, especially if their design is clever.

Posters can be targeted at a specific market, through careful selecting their location and taking care over the design.
