TIME CHART LESSON STARTER EXERCISE

The aim of this exercise is to focus pupils on 'time' and chronological order.

A number of inventions are listed below. Draw a line from the product to the correct date and description.

     

 

1494 - Made from barley by a monk called John Cor. Remained a secret until 1823 when John Smith set up large scale production. His spirit looks down on it still

     

 

1971 - Marcian E. Hoff designed the first of these whilst working for INTEL.

     
 
     

 

1923 - Known originally as an iconoscope. Developed by Russian born Valdimir Kosma Zworykin. Rudolf Valentino was often seen in front of one and so are many politicians today.

     

 

1915 - Manufactured and used by the Italians, called the ‘Villa-Perosa’ after the factory where it was first manufactured. The ‘full nine yards’. Every ‘Tommy’ wanted one.

     

 

15th Century - appeared first in China and then in Europe in the 17th century. Rechargeable versions are available today.

     

 

1880 - First produced in the USA. Over 100 million containers of this product are sold in the UK each year.

 
 
 

 

1886 - Invented by John Pemberton in the USA Produced a mixture containing nut extract, sugar and a little caffeine. Sugar free version available.

     

 

1819 - Francois-Louis Cailler made the first. The Spanish brought the original idea back from South America. ‘Smooth’ is a word that is used to describe it.
