Product analysis involves looking closely at existing products and identifying how they work, the materials they are made from, the industrial processes used to manufacture them and their key features. It may also involves the designer asking the general public or potential customers what they think of the product. The aim of product analysis is to help the designer develop even better designs and products in the future.

The trolley below is for a set of building blocks, for children. It has a fixed handle (does not fold away). It is manufactured from a combination of natural wood and manmade board.

A basic product analysis of trolley 'D' is written below.

MATERIALS: Manufactured from wood, pine handle sides, ramin dowel handle, plywood storage tray, pine wheels with rubber rims.

WHEELS: Manufactured from pine with rubber rims for a smoother ride.

MOVEMENT: Smooth movement on carpeted or vinyl floors. Not designed for outside use.

WEIGHT: It is a light weight trolley due to the combination of materials from which it is manufactured.

HANDLE: The handle has a set height for very young children. Not adjustable. The handle offers good support to a young child who may still be learning to walk.

COST: A low cost trolley and blocks (£30).

This Block Wagon Walker is a classic, traditional toy for a young child. Brightly coloured and it's tray stores thirty six plain and coloured blocks, giving plenty of potential for building and sorting. The handle does not fold away.
