ALTERNATIVE PACKAGING - HANDHELD TOY - BLISTER PACKAGING

This alternative packaging is manufactured from card and vacuum formed high density polystyrene. The polystyrene is transparent and tough. It is supplied in a range of ‘translucent’ colours. All the packaging can be recycled.
 

ADVANTAGES:

1. The cost of manufacturing the package is cheap compared to a complicated box.
2. Less material is used - this is good for the environment.
3. The package is easy to open and reseal.
4. Information can be printed on the packaging.
5. The package is light-weight which means it can be carried easily.
6. The package is relatively weather tight.
7. The handheld toy can be seen through its transparent cover. The user can become familiar with its use without taking it out of the package.

 
 
 
 
The plastic forming films such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polypropylene (PP) and polyester (PET) are formed through the use of heat, and are usually colorless and transparent. High density polystyrene is also suitable for blister packaging
 
MORE DETAIL AND QUESTION
 
The handheld toy has blister packaging. The back is made from quality white card, with a lacquered, gloss finish. The front is manufactured from vacuum formed high density polystyrene. The polystyrene is transparent which means that the toy can be seen through it. This type of packaging is called ‘blister packaging’.
 
Two samples of blank packaging are shown below. On packaging ‘A’ sketch the rough layout for the following information and symbols: The title - ‘Handheld Toy’ in a wildlife writing style, bar code, symbol to represent musical sounds, basic instructions, recycling symbol and European safety symbol.
