DRY STEAM POWER PLANT
V. Ryan © 2005 - 2023

This type of geothermal power plant is the most straightforward. The underground hot rocks heat the ground water to boiling point. The production well releases the steam from the ground and it rises up the pipe at the well at high speed, as it is naturally pressurised. The steam is fed through an arrangement of pipes, to the turbines. The turbines turn producing electricity. The steam condenses back to water, is allowed to cool and is returned to the ground. It is reheated through the geothermal activity and the energy cycle starts again.

Dry Steam Plants produce electricity directly from the steam that emerges at the earths surface. The steam drives turbines.
