HAND FILES /ENGINEERS FILES - 3
V. Ryan © 2006 - 2021 | |
The handle of a file is made from a wood such as pine or beech and is shaped ergonomically to fit the hand comfortably. The handle is pushed onto the tang of the file after the tang has been heated to red heat on the brazing hearth. This is a traditional way of permanently fitting the handle onto the file blade. |

Never use a file that does not have a properly fitted handle. The tang can be dangerous, especially to the portion of the hand, that makes contact with it. Always make sure that you fit a handle to a new file.
