This is how sensible Ed uses a chisel and mallet. Ed is suitably dressed, wearing an overall/dust coat and most important a pair of goggles. The goggles will protect his eyes if a small piece of wood is chipped away in the direction of his face. Ed has taken time to clamp the work to a bench and underneath the piece he is chiselling there is a piece of scrap wood. This protects the bench top. Ed is also ensuring that the chisel is held straight so that it cannot slip back into his body. |

Always listen to the teacher when you are given instructions about using any piece of equipment. Chisels a extremely sharp as they are used to remove waste or excess wood. |
