Describe a typical use of each.

 
NAME: Tape Measure

TYPICAL USE:

Used to measure long pieces of material, usually longer than 300mm (the normal length of a ruler). It is used widely in manufacturing industry such as, the construction industry.
   
   
NAME: Screwdriver

TYPICAL USE:

Used to ‘turn’ screws into pilot holes, when assembling products such as furniture. Used by carpenters, engineers and many more skilled and unskilled workers. Has many uses around the home.
   
 
   
NAME: Centre Punch

TYPICAL USE:

Used to create an indentation in materials such as steel, so that holes can be drilled accurately. The indentation prevents the drill bit slipping from the correct position. Used mainly when working with metals and occasionally, plastics.
   
   
NAME: Hand Drill

TYPICAL USE:

Used when a power tool is not required. Used to drill holes of diameters normally up to 9mm. Larger hand drills are available that will accept larger diameter drill bits.
Especially useful when drilling wood and plastic based materials.
   
   
NAME: Fretsaw

TYPICAL USE:

Used to cut and shape a range of materials such as woods and plastics. Can cut shapes accurately if care is taken and the correct type of blade is used. Often found in typical school workshops.
