Product Comparisons often make product analysis easier. The three task lights / office shown below, are all suitable for use at home or in an office. Compare each design on the set criteria. At the bottom of the page, shade the star rating. For example, if you think one of the lights is worth five stars, then shade all five. Be prepared to discuss each design and your star rating.

FEATURES
Bright colours suggesting a Memphis style of design. A linear LED cluster, spreading light broadly. Angle and rotary adjustment. Stable design, unlikely to ‘topple’ over.

MATERIALS
Aluminium tube for the arms. Cast aluminium base, plus stainless steel angle adjusting ‘nut’, in the centre of th arms.


AESTHETICS (How it looks)
A cross between a Modernist and Memphis style of design. Functional and yet eye-catching.


CONSTRUCTION METHOD
The aluminium base is cast (sand casting) and machined on a vertical milling machine. The aluminium tube is cut to length, with the ends being ‘faced off’ on a centre lathe.

 
 
 
 
Next, research the internet for three more images of task lights / office lights. Paste them on to a similar sheet (see below). Then carry out a product comparison, or ask another pupil / student to carry out the product analysis.
