WHAT IS PRODUCT DESIGN? (2)
V. Ryan © 2007

Product Design is not for those who intend to design and manufacture an item that already exists. However, you can take an existing product and improve it or develop an entirely new product. There are many examples of this, for example, the bicycle. Bicycles have been used for centuries and new innovative designs are being constantly developed. Mobile phones are also under constant development and improvement.

Projects at GCSE or AS/A Level can be a combination of Graphics, Resistant Materials, textiles and Systems and Control OR you can specialise in one area. Product Design can be attempted from other subject areas as well. Often the best projects and coursework are those that involve a combination of materials and technologies.
