One of the main purposes of working as a design team, is to discuss each others ideas. This allows for feedback (improvement suggestions and supportive statements), which leads to improvements to the final design. A focus group will also play an important role, when discussing possible solutions and ideas.

The discussion sheet below, is one way of a team analysing each members idea. Each member of the team, in turn, places their design in the centre of the sheet. The keywords / phrases at the side of the page, may be helpful as points to initiate discussion.

 
 
 
 
 
 

All discussions should be constructive and remarks about each design should not be taken personally, by members of the team. Start a discussion by finding something good about a design, such as the creativity and imagination shown or the variety of functions, choice of materials etc...... Then, describe and explain possible improvements.

It is important that one member of the team records what is said (called the ‘minutes of the meeting) and this person manages the meeting (chairperson). The chairperson keeps order and allows everyone the opportunity to speak.

Once a design is decided upon, the team should discuss developing the design and how it could be manufactured, on a school production line.
