QUALITY INDICATORS
V. Ryan © 2002
Draw a flow chart to represent the manufacture of the CD-ROM storage unit
and identify quality indicators. An
example is shown below. Usually each stage of manufacture is set out in
sequence and the quality indicator is agreed. The number of quality checks
is then agreed.
For example:
|
MANUFACTURING SEQUENCE |
QUALITY INDICATOR |
FREQUENCY OF ANALYSIS |
||
|
The first stage of manufacture is to select the materials to be used. |
The surface of all the materials is checked carefully for any faults and damage. The corner of one piece of material may have been damaged during transport/delivery |
It is important at this stage that all the materials are checked (100%). If a damaged piece is not detected it may only be found when the storage unit is complete and spray painted. This would be very costly and any customer would be likely to return the product. |
Quality indicators should be within a stated tolerance
Weight - greater than and less than a
particular weight.
Volume - greater than and less than
chosen weights.
Size - greater than and less than two
sizes.
Functionality - does it do what is
outlined in the specification?
Appearance - What makes the product
acceptable?
Other areas to be covered could be: sound, taste, smell, colour, touch,
finish
