RESOURCES

Stage One: The pupils will be shown a basic demonstration on the Boxford A3SHRi2.
The software will be explained and examples of the type of work shown to the pupils. The machining will be demonstrated and safety emphasised.
The pupils will rough out a flow chart, with each stage explained in detail., during the demonstration / talk.
The pupils will devise a style of presentation for the flow chart and this will be drawn accurately.
L. Key words represented as a flow chart.
N. Explanation of the interface and the role in plays in converting graphics to coordinates.
C. Explanation of the role of automation in industry and the benefits / negatives of this technology.
HWK. Complete detailed flow chart drawing. Bring in sample logos.

Complete detailed drawing of the Boxford A3 SHRi2, with labels CNC machines and appropriate software.

ICT access.

Drawing and writing equipment.

Stage Two: Explanation and demonstration of the use of Techsoft 2d design software using a projector.
The pupils will start designing a small logo which will be machines using the CNC equipment.. They will be allowed to access the internet for research purposes. Examples of logos will be shown.
Methods of translating detailed drawings into simple logos will be demonstrated. Explain why this is necessary for CNC work. Worksheet given
The groups will be divided into two. Group A will attempt designs using the software and Group B will complete the hand drawings using the grids
ICT. Internet research and use of Boxford’s software.
N. Scaled drawings produced using the grid paper.
HWK. Complete two designs on the grid paper, adding appropriate notes
Present a further idea for possible machining on a CNC machine. CNC machines and appropriate software.

ICT access.

Drawing and writing equipment.

Stage Three: Pupils will be shown how to convert their designs (process). Emphasis will be placed on conversion of the design to coordinates. Processing will start.
Pupils will attempt a flowchart on the industrial production of their product. They will be shown the difference between single item production and batch production, using animations of production lines to emphasise the difference.
The pupils will draw their own industrial production flow chart
N. Understanding of coordinates
C. Understanding of industrial processes and how they affect people in the workplace.
ICT. Viewing of animations. Drawing of flowcharts on Techsoft 2D Design software.
HWK. Complete flow chart work.
Collect information and symbols on recycling of material waste.
Present this information using DTP / Word Processing ? Graphics software.
CNC machines and appropriate software.

ICT access.

Drawing and writing equipment.
