STAGE

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

EXTENSION WORK

RESOURCES

Stage Four: Manufacturing of designs will start. This will be demonstrated.

The pupils will start drawing a sequence drawing of the design and manufacturing process. The importance of sequence drawings will be emphasised (DIY Instruction Sheets)

Pupils will be encouraged to rough out each stage as they work.
L. Pupils will list each stage of manufacture as part of a sequence drawing. This will be aimed at potential customers.
ICT. Processing and manufacture of designs.
N. Understanding of the conversion of graphic to coordinates.
C. An understanding of how important a sequence drawing can be as a tool of explanation for the general public.
HWK. Complete the sequence drawing.
Look at an instruction leaflet for a product of your choice. Evaluate it in terms of ease of understanding.
List ways in which it cab be improved.
CNC machinery and software.

General workshop tools and equipment.

Drawing and writing equipment.

Stage Five: Continuation of manufacturing.
The pupils will be shown a number of sample packages for their product. The packages will be analysed in terms of the information they have printed on them, their use of colour and shade and use of images and symbols.
Recycling will be discussed and the official symbols explained.
Safety will be discussed and associated British and European symbols.
The pupils will start design two packages for their products, using the printed sheets.
L. Pupils will analyses the information found on packages, labeling, symbols etc….
ICT. Pupils will search for safety and consumer symbols for inclusion on their package.
N. The net measurements / proportions will be discussed.
C. The importance of recycling and the environment discussed.
HWK. Complete two designs for the CNC package.
Collect sample packages for a range of small products. Analyse their use of colour, shade and symbols.
Present this on one A4 sheet.
CNC machinery and software.
General workshop tools and equipment.
Drawing and writing equipment.
Sample packages.
Stage Six: Manufacturing on CNC machine completed

The pupils will select their best design and transfer this to the full size development / net.
Precise / realistic use of colour, shade, printing and symbols will be explained.
The pupils will cut out the package, fold and glue it to form a 3D shape.
L. Information to be placed on the package will be discussed
ICT. Pupils may use tables to print out information, ie. Contents, weights safety etc… for their packages
N. Data collected for inclusion on the package.
C. Reduction of waste through the use of die cutting and tessellations. Use of industrial software that calculates efficient positioning of tessellations.
HWK. Complete final package design
Pupils to ask to design a package for a small product of their choice. Include colour scheme and all associated information. CNC machinery and software.
General workshop tools and equipment.
Drawing and writing equipment.
Sample packages
