RESOURCES

Stage One: The pupils will be shown a basic demonstration on the Boxford Duet. A simple shape will be drawn using techsoft software and this will be saved to diskette. The work piece size and basic tools will be explained. The pupils will be shown how to transfer the file to the standalone computer for final manipulation. Sending to mill - explained in detail. The pupils will fill out a flow chart representing each stage. Key words reinforced by the teacher.

ICT. Detailed explanation of the transfer of files and use of techsoft software.

L. Key words represented as a flow chart.

N. Explanation of the interface and the role in plays in converting graphics to coordinates.

C. Explanation of the role of automation in industry and the benefits / negatives of this technology.

HWK. Complete detailed drawing CNC system. Collect drawings from magazines for the next stage.

Using the technology website, research CNC machines. CNC machines and appropriate software.

ICT access.

Drawing and writing equipment.

Stage Two: The pupils will start designing a small logo which will be machines using the CNC equipment. Examples of logos will be shown. Methods of translating detailed drawings into simple logos will be demonstrated. Explain why this is necessary for CNC work. The pupils will select four detailed drawings, collected as previous homework. They will draw simplistic versions of each. Notes will be added to each. One idea will be selected and drawn to the scale required for a plastic blank.

ICT. Clip art loaded - wmf pictures.

N. Scaled drawings produced.

HWK. Complete development of final idea.

Present a further idea for possible machining on a cnc machine. CNC machines and appropriate software.

ICT access.

Drawing and writing equipment.

Stage Three: Pupils introduced to the design of the front and scenery. Emphasis placed on the relationship between the selected cnc image and the scenery. Two ideas for the front and scenery attempted. Tracing paper used to overlay image with scenery. Pupils will produce their design on the CNC software and this will be processed for milling.

N. Accurate measurement of scenery with image design.

ICT. Pupils use a template to help design scenery and image.

HWK. Complete design work.

Make a card 3D model of the selected design. CNC machines and appropriate software.

ICT access.

Drawing and writing equipment.
