RESOURCES

Stage Four: The pupils will be introduced to a range of linkage mechanisms. They will be shown examples as seen on bicycles, tool boxes etc….

Using the theory sheet, the pupils will complete the linkages and name each one. They will draw a practical application of each linkage and add explanatory notes.

Demonstration on the marking out and cutting of puppet parts. Use of the fretsaw and marking out tools.
L. Written explanation of linkages
ICT. Internet research on linkages.
N. Measurements for the layout of puppet demonstrated and discussed.
HWK. Complete the linkage sheet
Collect drawings / pictures of machine / parts / components that rely on linkage mechanisms.

ICT access.
Drawing and writing equipment.
Sample linkages and mechanisms.
Stage Five: Practical work begins. The pupils will mark out their puppets and start to cut out the shapes using fretsaws. Safety will be emphasised and discussed.

The use of the drilling machine will be demonstrated and safety will be emphsised.

The pupils will start a worksheet on the use of the drilling machine.
N. Accurate measuring and marking out of puppet components.
C. The importance of approaching the use of workshop equipment in a safe manner. Health and safety at work emphasised.
L. Completion of worksheet using key words/ terms.
HWK. Complete drilling machine information sheet.
Draw a diagram of atypical drilling machine and label the important parts. ICT access.
Drawing and writing equipment.
Workshop equipment.
Stage Six: A range of hand tools will be demonstrated, including files, glass paper, marking gauge etc…

The pupils will continue associated practical work.

The pupils will start a sequence drawing of the manufacturing process. A sample sequence drawing will be shown to the pupils and the layout and content will be discussed.
L. Statements for the sequence drawing discussed
ICT. Opportunity to research all the hand tools and machines used during manufacture. Presented one A4 sheet.
N. Accurate positioning of parts / components for the manufacturing of the final product.
C. Pupils produce simple instructions as to the manufacture of their design. It should be possible for anyone to follow each stage.
Draw a simple flow chart of the manufacturing sequence. ICT access.
Drawing and writing equipment.
Workshop equipment.
