All walking sticks are essentially the same. They help people walk, by
keeping them steady and providing support. You have been contacted by
MI6 (British Secret Service). They have asked you to design a walking
for James Bond’s brother, Eric Bond, who is about to embark on a very
dangerous mission.
The walking stick should be interesting to look at, but not too
interesting, as it may attract unwanted attention from the enemy. It
should be hollow, so that many additional features can fit inside it. It
must be easy to activate each feature.
Recently, a dangerous enemy has set up a base at the South Pole and they
are developing a new weapon of mass destruction.
You should consider the following additional features: gun, including
missile launcher, telescope and x-ray vision facility. The stick should
act as a snorkel (in case Eric Bond falls into water, after drinking
cocktails) and include a radar system. It should act as a location
beacon, in case an emergency extraction is required and have an aerial,
for his short wave radio system. Add as many features as you think is
necessary.
TASKS
1. Research walking sticks on the internet and collect images of designs
that you like. Paste the pictures on to an A4 sized piece of paper.
2. Add notes that explain what you like about each of the walking
sticks. You may wish to explain the features that you like.
3. Now consider your own walking stick designs. Draw two rough designs
and add notes that explain your ideas.
4. Select your best design. Draw your design accurately and add colour
and shade.
5. Add labels that clearly identify all the features of your walking
stick.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
To achieve a high grade:
Produce a good range of research and include detailed notes.
Draw two rough designs clearly and explain each design.
Produce an accurate colour rendered drawing of your final idea,
identifying all the features of your walking stick.
