POP-UP CARDS - ANALYSIS SECTION V. Ryan © 2003-2021
The ANALYSIS is one of the early sections
in the design process. It involves listing as many questions as you can
think of regarding your pop-up card project. Examples of the type of
questions you could use are shown below. There is no need to answer the
questions yet as they are written down in order to get you to think in
detail about the pop-up project. |

EXAMPLE ANALYSIS |
1. How
will I ensure the design is safe ? 2. What materials are available ? What materials will be the most suitable? 3. What will be the overall size ? 4. How long will the product take to manufacture ? 5. How will the product be mass produced ? On a production line ? What will the cost of ‘labour’ be ? 6. What is the best shape for the solution ? 7. What type of movement or mechanism will it have? 8. What colour scheme will be most appropriate ? 9. What are the functions of the product ? 10. Is sound required? How will this be achieved?? 11. What special features need to be built into the designs ? 12. What ‘ergonomic’ factors need to be taken into account ? 13. What designs already exist ? What do you think of them ? Could they be improved? 14. What are the addresses of manufacturers and suppliers who may help me design my product ? 15. Where can I collect research material to help me design ? 16. Who is going to buy my product ? What is the age group ? 17. Is my solution likely to solve the design problem ? 18. What equipment and machinery will I need for manufacture ? |

You must add as many relevant questions as possible
to the analysis. Present the analysis very carefully on A3 paper adding
appropriate graphics/colour. |
EXERCISE: 1. Using lined paper put each of the questions listed above into your own words. 2. Add extra questions of your own. |
