DESIGNING CAR AIR FRESHENERS

V. Ryan © 2004

The two photographs (below), show two similar car air fresheners. The images are based on a well known cartoon character and an outline of a tree.
The material is dense foam which is impregnated with perfume (the foam is soaked in perfume). When either of the fresheners are taken out of their sealed plastic packaging, the perfume begins to evaporates. This lasts for up to two months.

1. In the two spaces, draw two different ideas based on type of fresheners in the photographs. Add colour and shade.

Add notes beneath each design.

The two photographs below, show another type of car air freshener. The image is based on a dolphin and is manufactured from polythene (high density) HDPE (a type of plastic).
The container stored in its body is a small glass bottle containing the perfume.
As the top is screwed into the perfume container a small wick draws the perfume slowly to the top, where it evaporates. This lasts for up to two months.

THE WICK IS LOWERED INTO THE PERFUME AND THE TOP SCREWED INTO POSITION. THE PERFUME IS SLOWLY DRAWN TO THE TOP AND EVAPORATES SLOWLY.

2. In the two spaces, draw two ideas for an alternative shape to the dolphin. Remember, you must leave room for the glass perfume container. You must show how the glass bottle is held in position.

Add colour and shade.
Add notes beneath each design.
