A broad felt pen (chisel point) can be used to produce a background.
Normally a light / bright colour is used, as it gives the appearance of
lifting the drawing slightly off the page . Two broad lines of a chisel
point felt pen, are drawn as the background (SEE BELOW). This quick technique enhances the 3D effect. This is another technique, ideal when drawing design ideas. However, examination boards do not allow felt pens to be used in examinations, when attempting exam papers, as they tend to soak through the paper. |
The perfume bottle drawn below, has a background completely surrounding
it. When sketching an idea / design, simply try drawing a single broad
line around and if it does not look right, add another line to increase
the thickness. Shading a background with a coloured pencil has a similar effect, although it is not as bold. |
