EMERGENCY MOBILE PHONE - PACKAGING - 2

BLISTER PACKAGING

V. Ryan © 2007

The emergency mobile phone seen below has simple packaging. As the phone is for emergencies only it has a limited number of functions. A simple phone only needs simple protective packaging. This package is manufactured from card and vacuum formed high density polystyrene.  The polystyrene is transparent and quite tough. All packaging can be recycled.

What are the advantages of having packaging of this type?

1. The cost of manufacturing the package is cheap compared to a complicated box.
2. Less material is used - this is good for the environment.
3. The package is easy to open and reseal.
4. Limited information can be printed on the packaging. This is a good point as an emergency mobile phone only requires simple instructions. Complicated instructions will confuse the user in an emergency situation.
5. The package is light-weight which means it can be carried easily.
6. The package is relatively weather tight.
7. The mobile phone can be seen through its transparent cover. The user can become familiar with its use without taking it out of the package.

The plastic forming films such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polypropylene (PP) and polyester (PET) are formed through the use of heat, and are usually colorless and transparent. High density polystyrene is also suitable for blister packaging
