keeps a hot drink warm for a reasonable amount of time. The lid helps
prevent spillage. |

Stainless steel |
Write three reasons why the metal you named, is suitable for the manufacture of the container. |
REASON 1: |
Stainless steel is an alloy including chromium, which means that it will not corrode, rust or stain. This means that it is ideal for a drinking vessel. A stained ‘cup’ would not be popular with customers and this applies to a cup that displays rust. Stainless steel in a low maintenance material, as it only needs washing in order return to its original surface finish. |
REASON 1: |
Stainless steel is malleable and can be formed through spinning and press forming. These industrial processes are ideal for the manufacture of the container part of the cup. Other materials are not as suitable because, they do not possess the property of malleability in combination with that of resistance to corrosion. |
REASON 1: |
Stainless steel can have a range of surface finishes applied to it. These include, matt, brushed and bright finishes. The brush finish helps to hide minor scratches and damage. Furthermore, stainless steel can have a colour tinted finish, making more attractive to potential customers. The range of finishes makes this material more aesthetically pleasing, to a larger range of potential customers. |
