When the PICAXE 18 integrated circuit is used in conjunction with a ULN2803A driver outputs such as motors and solenoids can be connected directly to the microcontroller circuit. The ULN2803A contains all the necessary drivers /amplifiers to provide enough power to motors / solenoids that require more power than the usual 3 volt solar motors. |

The PICAXE microcontroller circuit shown below shows two inputs connected (push switch and toggle switch). The outputs are a combination of LEDs, a motor and a solenoid. |

LIGHT / DARK SENSOR Opposite is a simple light/ dark sensor. This can be connected as an input to the PICAXE 18 microcontroller circuit shown above. The sensors has three yellow wires (1, 2 and 3). Wire 2 should always be connected to one of the inputs. If wire 1 is also connected then the sensor acts as a dark sensor. If wires 2 and 3 are connected to the inputs then sensor operates as a light sensor. |

TEMPERATURE SENSOR Opposite is a simple temperature sensor. The sensors has three yellow wires (1, 2 and 3). Wire 2 should always be connected to one of the inputs. If wire 1 is also connected then the sensor acts as a heat sensor. If wires 2 and 3 are connected to the inputs then sensor operates as a cold sensor. Sensitivity is altered by adjusting the preset resistor. |
