PIC-MICROCONTROLLER PROJECT 1

V. Ryan © 2002

Below is a pic-microcontroller project - two views can be seen, one of the front and other of the back of a model house. A PIC has been used to help increase the security of the house by turning on the two light bulbs upstairs. Also, as part of the programming, a model person rotates into one of the bedroom windows to make the house look occupied. The device could be used when the house is unoccupied.

The sensor circuit can be clearly seen at the back of the model house (circuit diagram below). A micro-switch is activated as the front gate opens and this triggers the 555 timer circuit. The final relay of the circuit is connected to a pic-microcontroller project board which turns on a motor, rotating a model person into one of the upstairs windows and turning on the two upstairs lights. A buzzer then sounds for 10 seconds (this could be a radio or a recording of voices). The PIC continually monitors the circuit and if the gate is opened again the same sequence of events takes place.
