DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATIONAL TOY - FURTHER EXAMPLES

V.Ryan © 2017

IDEA 2: This is a simple jigsaw. It helps a child develop hand-eye coordination as well as an understanding of letters. The pieces are quite large so that they cannot be swallowed. Each piece could be a different colour, helping young children to distinguish between colours.

IDEA 3: As the mechanical duck is pulled forward the wings flap upwards and downwards. This is achieved through the use of a eccentric cam fixed to each axle. The diagrams below show how the mechanism works. As the wheels and axle rotate the eccentric cams also rotate. As the eccentric cams move upwards they also push the wings upwards. As the eccentric cam rotate downwards the wings drop down. The faster the toy is pulled forward the faster the wings flap. The purpose of this toy is to encourage very young children to walk.

IDEA 4: The mechanical toy below is based on a cam mechanism. As the toy is pulled along the heads of the ‘ducks’ move up and down. This toy encourages a young child to walk.
