As a Team, your are to manufacture the card learning clock and packaging, as seen below. The basic shape of the learning clock (it’s net/development) will stay the same, although you can add your own graphics, by drawing and / or using printed images. Your team is to manufacture and decorate the packaging as well.

You will have internet access to examples and resources to help with finalising the design and manufacturing the product and packaging.

PARTS A and C:
SOLID WHITE BOARD AND CARDBOARD

SOLID WHITE BOARD - This is normally top quality cardboard made from quality bleached wood pulp. It is the best card for printing on to and consequently it is used for hard backed books and more expensive items. Solid white board can be recycled, when the package is no longer needed.

CARDBOARD - is thicker than paper as it is made up of a number of layers, glue or laminated together. The diagram opposite shows a net / development of a package. It can be folded to produce a carton. This material can also be recycled, especially if biodegradable inks are used for images and text.

To manufacture this packaging starts with cutting the outer shape of a net / development. The edges to be folded are ‘creased’, making it easy to form the ‘box’.

PART B:
LOW DENSITY POLYETHYLENE OR LOW DENSITY POLYSTYRENE

Polythene and Polyethylene can be moulded into almost any form due to their excellent moulding qualities. Used for the production of bottles, bowls, toys, tube etc... Both available in large sheets.

Low density polystyrene / polyethylene will be used for the tray. Both plastics can be recycled.

The tray is manufactured through vacuum forming.
