Having asked all the important questions, the designer can now write a design specification. The specification is a list of factors that the design must satisfy. This information can be used as a reference when drawing ideas, to ensure that all the clients needs are considered. The designers specification is seen below.

1. The recycle bins must be robust and sturdy and be able to withstand knocks and rough treatment.
2. The bins must be stable and unlikely to ‘topple’ over.
3.The design must be interesting and encourage recycling.
4. The bins must be lightweight and easy to move on wheels.
5. Each bin must have a lid that can be opened and closed with ease.
6. All bins must be manufactured with the environment in mind. Recycled materials to be used where possible.
7. Each bin must be cheap (within £10 to £15).
8. The bins will be weather proof and easy to clean.

At this point other points may be added such as;

9. It will be safe to use as it will not have sharp edges. It will satisfy British and European safety standards.
10. A range of styles will be available for potential customers
11. They will be manufactured in a range of colours/shades.
12. It will be possible to recycle the bin after its useful working life.
13. The bins will be manufactured in a variety of sizes..
