HOW TO WORK OUT AN ERGONOMIC MEASUREMENT

To work out the average measurements of an Adult’s hand the following two dimensions were collected. These appear on the diagram below. The average measurement is then calculated using the ‘mean average’.
 
1. Collect 10 measurements for ‘A’ and ‘B’ dimensions.
2. Add each column to find the total.
3. Calculate the mean average by dividing each total by the number of measurements in each column.
HOW THE DATA WILL HELP YOU DESIGN THE HANDLE TO A RECYCLING BIN
 
The average measurements can be used to design a handle that fits the hand of a potential user. The handle will fit the average size hand comfortably making it easy to push/pull the recycling bin around.

Collect the measurements of the hand from people in your class.

Work out the total for each column.

Work out the average measurement by calculating the mean average.
