A project board is good way to learn to build a microcontroller circuit and download a programme. The project board comes as a kit with all the necessary components, serial cable and software. It is connected to the computer via a com port or USB port. When the programme is written using ‘Programme Editor’ software and has been tested on screen, it can be downloaded. The serial cable has a ‘jack plug’ which pushes into the download socket on the project board. A power source (4.5 to 5 volts) must be connected to the battery snap. Also, the jumper switch must be set to PROG. The ‘RUN’ icon is ‘clicked’ on the screen and the programme downloads. Once the programme has been downloaded, the jumper switch must be altered to the OUT setting before the circuit can be tested. |

The project board opposite has be set up with a
micro-switch connected to pin 3, as an input. Three LEDs have been
connected to pins 1, 2 and 4 as outputs. To allow plenty of space
plastic connectors have been used. This means that the LEDs and their
protecting resistors are not soldered to the project board. If desired,
they can be soldered directly to the project board. |

QUESTION: Have you noticed something wrong with the setting of the jumper switch on the project board? It is in the wrong position- it should be set for OUT. For more details click here. |
