| The combination disc and belt sander, is a versatile machine for smoothing and shaping wood and plastics. This machine is two machines in one. It has a disc sander and a belt sander. Due to their dual functions, this type of machine is NOT recommended for schools. |

| USING THE ROLLER END OF THE BELT |
| |
| The belt spins round the roller end of the machine. The machine operator holds the wood gently against the curved end, to produce curves. It is important that the wood is also gently moved back and forth, across the width of the abrasive belt. |

| USING THE FLAT PORTION OF THE BELT |
| |
When using the flat portion of the belt, both hands should be in control of the wood being sanded. The wood rests against the cross fence and is gently moved back and forth, across the width of the belt. Gentle pressure is applied downwards.
DO NOT APPLY EXCESS PRESSURE. |

| BELT SANDER LOCKED IN VERTICAL POSITION |
| |
When using the abrasive belt in the vertical position, ideally the portion of the belt not in use is guarded (not exposed). This diagram shows the guard locked in position, leaving visible the part being used for sanding.
The wood being sanded is held in both hands and rests on the worktable. Light pressure is applied, gently pushing the wood forward, whilst at the same time moving back and forth, across the abrasive belt |

| WHY DUST EXTRACTION IS VITAL |
| |
The disc / belt sander creates large amounts of harmful, hazardous, dust particles. The extraction system must be capable of removing these particles from the machine, before they have a chance of floating away on the air.
The ‘suction’ of the extractor, draws the dust into the extractors dust storage unit, so that it can be disposed of safely later.
Managing dust extraction is important, because it helps protect the health of workers and other people in the workshop. It is also a legal obligation, according to Health and Safety Laws.
Breathing in dust, especially over a long period of time, can seriously damage a persons health. |

| WEAR A FACE MASK |
| |
| Consider wearing a face mask, capable of filtering dust. The mask must be the correct quality / standard for workshops. |

| FURTHER INFORMATION REGARDING THE COMBINATION DISC AND BELT SANDER |
| |
| Adjustable Belt Guard, is designed to cover the part of the belt, that is not in use and exposed. It is advisable to fit this type of machine with suitable, adjustable guards. |
| |
 |
| |
| The motor provides power to both the disc sander and the belt sander, at the same time. The machine operator must be conscious, that both the belt and the disc will be running together. |
