EXPLODED VIEWS - DOMESTIC CLEANSING SPRAY

A simple ‘pump action (trigger) spray, for a domestic disinfectant is shown below. The side view shows the external view of the spray container and trigger lid. The part sectioned view displays various part as cut-away (technical term, ‘sectioned’). This view provides more detail. For example, the sectioned lid shows the spring mechanism and how it interacts with the trigger mechanism.

The exploded part sectioned view provides even more detail, including the way the parts line up and fit together. Centre lines have been included for this reason. Section views are very useful, when explaining a design and how it works. The section view has also been labelled and identifies the materials being used in its manufacture.

EXPLODED, PART SECTIONED VIEW (DETAILED)

This is a ‘detailed’ exploded view. It includes colour coding of the parts and identifying labels and materials listed.

EXPLODED, PART SECTIONED VIEW (OUTLINE)

This is an ‘outline’ exploded view. Although labelled, each part has been drawn as an outline, which means it takes less time to draw.

WORKSHEET / EXERCISE

Draw an exploded view of the trigger action spray bottle. You can choose to draw a ‘detailed exploded view OR an outline exploded view. Add labels identifying each part. (Please note - more marks will be awarded for the detailed view).
