RESOURCES

The pupils will be introduced to the colour wheel. Use of primary, secondary, complimentary colours, hue and tone. They will present the colour wheel work in a graphical manner.

ICT. Use of technology website for study of colour wheel.

L. Read through graphics section of website relating to primary and secondary colours. Discussion on the principles of the colour wheel.

HWK. Complete colour circle presentation sheet.

Complete a presentation sheet relating to primary and secondary colours Website address

Drawing / graphics equipment.

The pupils will be shown how to draw cubes and cuboids and a variety of colouring techniques will be used to enhance these drawings. (See Folder)

They will be shown how to represent texture such as wood, plastics (matt and shiny), glass, metal (matt and shiny), concrete and use dry transfer techniques. All drawn on cuboids or similar shapes.

They will attempt a number of examples and be shown how to draw shapes such as cylinders and objects with curved surfaces. They will use coloured pencil line shade techniques for visual effect.

ICT. Use of graphics software to produce a range of geometrical shapes. Textures/colours added.

L. Notes regarding preferred shading techniques will be added to geometrical shapes.

N. Use of isometric shapes. Angles for isometric and oblique projection discussed and demonstrated.

ICT pupils to explore examples on technology website.

HWK. Draw cubes that display the three colouring styles.

Pupils to design a simple device such as an hairdryer using appropriate colouring techniques. Website address

Drawing / graphics equipment.

The pupils will be introduced to basic Isometric Drawing. The pupils will be shown how to construct a number of box-like shapes increasing in difficulty. The pupils will be shown how to use the set square and other equipment in a suitable manner. The construction of Isometric Circles and Curves will be demonstrated and the pupils will attempt several examples. The pupils will design and draw, using the above techniques, a small camera (isometric projection). Emphasis will be placed on the use of line drawing with colour.

N. Use of set squares. Careful measuring, use of dividers.

L. Read through examples on the internet. Add notes to each design.

ICT use of Prodesktop to rotate simple isometric shapes.

HWK. Draw a number of basic isometric shapes, Design a basic camera

Draw a number of more complex designs in isometric. Use a range of colouring techniques to enhance the presentation. Internet access.

Traditional drawing/colouring equipment

The pupils will be given a basic brief regarding the need to design a poster for a forthcoming film. (See NEA text book for brief). The pupils will use skills previously acquired for the printing styles. They will cut and paste characters from catalogues/magazines. They will produce a grid layout for the poster containing two rough layouts of the poster. They will generate on a paint/graphics software package the main title. Text describing the film - advertising text/summary of film/advert - will also be added. Lettering will be discussed in detail. Character styles, examples used in commercial signs/logos, effect of size and style (soft, hard, sharp, loud - words that look like they sound) etc... , Kerning and point size will also be discussed. They will produce a final design. (A3 paper)

L. Read and discuss the text book section relating to Poster Design. Discuss pupil opinions concerning example posters.

N. Explain the grid layout and use of proportion ie. Columns and Rows. Scale explained.

ICT. Use of clip art, Construction of part of the poster through use of graphics/DTP software.

C. Discuss the role of posters in advertising and promoting images to the public.

HWK. Research, Grid layout, completion of rough ideas and final poster.

Pupils to collect a range of example film posters, past and present, internet based research.

Design an additional promotional item.
